If you are a stranger in a strange land- an alien… God has a message for you.
“seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”

came here from your comment on stf to find that Jeremiah 29 is speaking to you too
as an alien in Finland (that’s what the dept you reported to was called when I first came here – the aliens’ office!) I have hung onto that verse too – not that I’ve felt exiled, I chose to be here, but there are times that ‘home’ is still far away. Now I wouldn’t live anywhere else, but I’m not truly assimilated, and can identified (albeit in a tiny way) withthe Jews in exile – looking back at Jerusalem and the temple and something stirring in their hearts.
They were strengthened by their exile – they prospered spiritually – and a strong remnant returned – that’s our hope and future too.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
PS can I ask about your name? You see it’s my daughter’s name – but is very Finnish or Hungarian. It means joyful one – did you know that – and how did you come to have that name. Is it a nickname? or your real one (no need to answer here – you can email me – or not answer at all. Just curious)
It is a family name (Hungarian) and I did some study on its origins some years ago. The fact that it is both Finn and Hungarian in usage means it is ancient in origin I believe and not the usual Hellenized (little pun there) version. At least I don’t think so.
I have some of a story on that and think maybe it would make a good post.
Actually the verse inspired me from the reference I read on your blog!
I am getting very fond of visiting your blog.:)
interesting. i wonder why the church has forgotten the Lords word to us about how we should treat the widow, orphan, and alien among us?
The trouble with broad based comments such as that is the same with vague prophecies- they could be true or not depending…on alot of things.
I don’t know that Christians have forgotten how to treat aliens- many churches I know are primary sponsors and supports of legal aliens. Probably many give charity to illegals as well…so I would have to question you, fletch.. did you mean something specific or were you taking an easy shot?
