Life and Times… of me :)

Yes, you had to come see this, right? Actually, it is probably guaranteed to have ppl on the rss reader go “next”. all one of them.

I don’t know why I have been in such a lather about politics, well yes, I do, but it leaves me sort of depressed. I think because it is disheartening to see how frivolous and fickle people’s attention spans are on the important things. It makes sense, but it is still depressing. Everything encourages us, and we tend to choose the quicksilver changes of the latest distraction. That is probably why certain stars are so popular ( I’ve read this, not original thought)- they remake themselves, constantly reinventing shock value personalties.

Madonna is probably the most famous example, but Cher did some of it. Changing the look was the easiest, but lots of them changed the personna as well. we may not like to expend the effort to do this, but we love to watch it. And so, the constant barrage of what’s the latest news. Reducing all to the same levels of redundancy, unless it can be picked up as something more iconic.

Doesn’t it make you feel jerked around, though?

As Christians we are belittled for the simplistic approach to the world- we don’t dance to the tunes enough, or we dance too much to the wrong piper. You know there is an unusual scripture which, should I apply it to us as an example, would be much derided. It has to do with having that unshakeable assurance in Who you know and What you know from Him. It is an inner compass, a confidence in focus. It is this:

Isaiah 42

18 “Hear, you deaf;
look, you blind, and see!

19 Who is blind but my servant,
and deaf like the messenger I send?
Who is blind like the one committed to me,
blind like the servant of the LORD ?

20 You have seen many things, but have paid no attention;
your ears are open, but you hear nothing.”

other things I’ve been doing:

I had a short exchange with someone, cile, who made the most untoward remarks. She is located in the Netherlands. I’m going to wander over to the blog on which she responded to me.

One subject was AIDs. One area where I still find myself absolutely floored by the inanity of people is this subject of AIDS. People who blame the pope for spreading AIDS. Or those who think having sex with a virgin cures it, or that it is all a United States plot. There are so many things that qualify as outlandish superstition or just plain breaks with reality. ( euphemism for CRRRAAAZY)

In debate there come up some remarks that are so regular as to be called “obligatory” which is how Gail of Crossing the Rubicon2 described the deadening, meaning-robbing holocaust or Nazi reference. There is the fundamentalist reference. That was brought up by cile: she cited an important personage as saying that Islamic fundamentalism was a non-issue because…well… fundamentalists are popping up everywhere, ( what she actually said are that there are more in Christian, in Hindu, and in Buddhist religions as well as Muslim).

Now, there is a piece of non-logic.

Well, that’s all for now, except that my ENTIRE back yard has been dug up for the new septic system. I had no idea they required so much area. I am aghast and undone. I obviously can’t use the space for vegetable garden, so I will try to seed it to grass in the fall. Oh my goodness…My entire back yard.

I couldn’t help it- I had to adjust the typos again, sorry. I’ll try not to update this anymore, ok?

  1. I enjoyed this recent update of “The Life and Times of Ilona”. Send the next installment asap, please. Happy 4th of July!

  2. Was xtra busy this weekend… but will do my best to comply;)

    I have numerous topics vying for attention, and needing only time to put it into keystrokes.

  3. Sigh. I ignore those like Madonna for whom faith is a new and exciting toy. They tire and depress me.

    As for AIDS – I can’t believe what is being said and written about it. I can’t believe the fallacies and self-contradictory logic being used. The Catholic church is neither causing AIDS nor recommending policies that cause it to be spread.

    I ran across several articles lately on the subject that fried my brain. I am too distressed to respond, and hag-ridden by fever, and blogger is eating my posts with some frequency anyway.

    We are an insane culture in important respects. When it becomes bigotry to point out that very unsafe sexual practices are unsafe, we have abandoned not just religion or morality, but sanity.

  4. sorry you are facing so many aggravations! You need a someone to soothe that fevered brow;)

    I do have to say that the illogical stretches that are made on the subject of AIDS tax the credulity. The internet helps us to know that yes, there are really people who think that way…..

    I do appreciate all the hard work you put into your blog of late- you could slow the pace and still be one of the top bloggers in my particular ratings book.

    Keep the faith. Fight the good fight:)
