Mm… me too! I have many parenting issues coming to the fore at the moment, not the least of which is our decision this week to homeschool my son next year. (It’s a cyber charter, which I know some people look down upon, but he’ll be at home, nonetheless.) I’m also having a bit of an explore into the realm of kids & piano practicing over at A Sort of Notebook, for anyone who follows Waterfall’s great blog.
I’ve been trying to get my brain around Love & Logic, and I think the emphasis at Reasons Why on compassion with our kids speaks to me most. Just this week at a L&L talk, the speaker said we should only let our extreme emotions show when they’re positive ones, in response to good work, good behavior, etc. When things are bad, we should remain calm and unemotional, which seems to me to be the height of compassion toward a little soul. 🙂
Good for you:) Dont’ let anyone look down on your choice- homeschooling, like the rest of parenting, will go through changes. Do what you feel is right for your family.
I’d say be real, but discipline yourself and your life to be the best person you can be…some of the high aspirations have a way of turning on you if you expect too much of your kids and yourself.
-but compassion is always good with kids 🙂
something that really helped me was to learn that there are common phases and behaviors @ certain ages… it gave me more patience along the way.
