This Bothers Me

Bookworm Room: It’s a mad, mad, mad world

…we’re forgetting as a community that children are children.

I’m completely opposed to the school of parenting that says that children should be forgiven everything, precisely because they are children. Children need consequences and boundaries, coupled with love, guidance and understanding.

However, we’ve lately been treating children as adults in a punitive sense…

I think one of the reasons this so bothers me is within the greater context of how topsy-turvy our sense of right and wrong has become. We call evil good and good evil all the time, now. We excuse the inexcusable and crush the inadvertant without mercy. This is now regular occurance. It is deadening and discouraging.

It is prophetic fulfillment, but sadly so. It sometimes seems futile to hold up the standard, to keep up the dialogue.

All I can say is “Love Your Children”, do good as much as you can, exalt the honest and the kind, pray often, do not yet grow weary….gird up those loins, for we have yet to contend with the horses:

Jeremiah 12:4-6

“If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses? And if in the land of peace, In which you trusted, they wearied you, Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan? For even your brothers, the house of your father,
Even they have dealt treacherously with you;
Yes, they have called a multitude after you.
Do not believe them,
Even though they speak smooth words to you.”
