A conversation with George Will – Charlie Rose

I watched this last night, and hope to look at the video to consider a few things a little more closely. I think the turns that conservatism is making at this juncture are something to analyze. Do Christians have a political platform with which to identify their goals?

Or do changing goals change our direction? There is a big shift happening on two fronts: the political ( some of which is discussed/debated in this Charlie Rose episode), and the spiritual… as many believers search for direction and foundation.

The fact that McCain feels no need for endorsements from religious leaders such as Hagee and Parsley, and that George Will says he will vote for him despite vociferous opposition, means the political map has changed. Obama is actually a fantasy play, our highest aspirations to racial parity and hopes for a knight in shining armor who will change the bureaucracy of Washington, driving a “Wizard of Oz” campaign. McCain is the ogre that conservatives are hoping is really an endearing Shrek underneath. Perhaps that is the Republicans fantasy play answer.

The biggest thing at stake? The coming Supreme Court slots filled in by the next president. Now that is where the real power resides.
