Anyone Else?

I think I need help – so if anyone can help me out here that would be good.
Hootsbuddy ( forced by my slow return to sites that I read and comment on – most sites on my regular rounds get a weekly visit, some less often) had to post this warning, which I am pasting here because he will delete it, and I want more feedback:

(First posted Nov 1…)
I’m dating this post to appear at the top of the scroll for a week or two so ilona will find it. She lately left a comment on another post, but she didn’t see this one. Maybe this will be easier to find…

I’ve read your blog and occasionally heard from you for a long time. True grit has been on my blogroll since forever. But you need to know that my computer has a hard time when I go there. I like that you change the skin as often as most people get new hats. Breaks monotony and tells me you’re keeping on top of all the latest technology.

When my Symantec subscription ran out (after three years, two renewals) it was replaced by Trend Micro’s PC-cillin. Very different, and hypersensitive to adware which Norton ignored. Now when I click on your site ominous warning screens come flashing in from the right that tell me to close the browser and not go back to that site. They’re terrible, all red, white and blue…and I think one pops out every time another adware gremlin tries to jump through the connection.

This morning it happened five times as I was trying to read your post about the Devil, ignoring the warnings. (There is a way to make them stop, but I decided not to go there.) When I clicked to read the comment, it happened all over again. Then when I tried to escape, my whole system locked up and wouldn’t budge. Alt-Control-Del did nothing. This time I refused to cut off the electricity and wait…and eventually the browser closed and I started over. (And no, I never notify Microsoft when they ask. They’ve already wasted enough of my time.)

Sorry to be so public with this. Hope it’s helpful. I’ll delete the post when you get it. Thanks for reading.

Meantime, I’ll keep up with you the best I can by scanning what you post in the Bloglines panes…but that bit about “this is only a summary” is often too tempting and I really want to go to the site.

ouch. I’m trying to think. The counters all have cookies and are counted as adware tracking in my Spybot. I’ve had lock up problems myself, and those seem to be related to firefox, but I’m not sure. I’m running google analytics.. and that has cookies and tracking, since that is what analytics are all about. I recently deleted lots of amazon and only have one iframe for that right now. I think I will delete the scripts for “snap shots” and the “answer tips” which I thought were added benefit for readers. Maybe not.
Hope these things will help Hootsbuddy, and whoever else might have been troubled by my problem changes :).
Anyone with ideas post here in the comments.

  1. I changed rss to full posts feed, deleted snaps and answer tips. Hopefully that takes care of the problem, I won’t be taking off the counters or the google ads, so I hope that isn’t what set off the bells and red flags!

And I hope dear Hoots can read my stuff so he can comment or at least get by without a browser crash!!!!!!!

I appreciate when someone takes the time to help me the way he has here… kisses and hugs to Hoots.

  2. – I guess I have more than the one amazon- I forgot, but if those seem to be a problem I can get rid fo those, because I dont’ really get anything from my amazon stuff, I thought they were more like helpful tips on things that I think are nice products, etc.

  3. Thanks for all your trouble.
I have tried to leave comments three or four times at this post and the other one about the same problem and every time the comment never gets through.
    This is a test.
If it works, I can copy/paste what the warnings are telling me.
Still two flashing panels. They reference something about googlerank counting.

  4. It worked this time.
    here is the link:

This is what Trend Micro says:

    Suspicious Web Site Warning
    What caused this warning?
This warning opened because your Web Site Filter noticed that you have tried to open a potentially threatous Web site, or that the Web site you have tried to open has attempted to redirect to you to a potentially dangerous Web site.

    What to do now
Heed the warning and close this Web site immediately and never open it again. Opening the Web site, clicking links on the page, or downloading software could expose your computer to spyware. You also run the risk of falling victim to a phishing or pharming scam.

I’m not frightened. Just frustrated at the technology…both mine and yours. The people who make the internets work need to put some WD-40 on this problem.
